More details

The Panel Bag offers many variations. It can be made with one or two shoulder straps and the side panels can be pleated or gathered.

There's a choice of two pocket styles and optional piping detail. The panels can be cut in contrasting or co-ordinating fabrics in a wide range of combinations.

This pattern is designed to extend basic sewing skills towards intermediate level.

It includes detailed (easy to follow) instructions for many of the finer points of creating a well-finished bag – including how to make your own piping (corded or flat), reinforcing magnetic snaps and how to make super-neat straps and zip pockets.

Your friends won't believe you made this bag!

FABRIC - This bag is suited to a wide range of fabrics, from  wool and leather to quilting weight cotton fabrics.

For a bag with contrast panels

    90cm  main fabric

30cm contrast fabric (or 30cm x 60cm soft garment leather)

    For a  single-colour bag

1m-1.10m fabric (estimate more for a directional print, less for non-directional)

    60cm lightweight cotton fabric

    Medium-weight fusible woven interfacing  -
For light weight fabric, you will need to interface the entire outside of the bag, so estimate interfacing  the same as fabric.
For heavy fabrics, you will only need 20cm for the facing

    O-rings-Size 38mm-60mm - 2 rings per strap.

    1 x 19mm magnetic snap

20cm zip (for an internal pocket)

    110cm piping cord

1m fusible wadding (if the fabric requires extra structure)

    10cm x 22.5cm Peltex or Fast2Fuse (for the base)
