*It’s always best to work with the machine you know and love…. If you can't bring a sewing machine and want to participate in a class, we'll have one for you. Please book your machine when you’re booking in to the class.

Bags For Beginners - Ideal for absolute beginners (or basic-level sewers who just need a little extra help with their first bag). Step by step help with all aspects of cutting, sewing, using zips and specialised fittings. The small class size will ensure you get all the help you'll need to learn and gain confidence with your sewing, in a supportive group of fellow-newbies!

A Bag in a Day - Make a bag in a day, and pick up lots of professional construction techniques and finishing tips for straps, bases and specialised fittings. For basic to intermediate sewing skills (not beginners).

1 session – At the Brunswick Business Incubator

SEWING FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS -

These workshops will help you to get the most out of your machine, and set you on the road to successful sewing! Suitable for beginners interested in any aspect of sewing, whether for bags, clothing or other projects.


Get to Know Your Sewing Machine - Understand your machine and learn how to use it well. Learn how to troubleshoot simple problems, and simple maintenance to ensure its long-term "health".

Basic Sewing Skills - Learn the basic stitches and sewing techniques, and make simple bags and purses (including a zippered purse). Gain confidence in a very small, supportive group with LOTS of individual attention.
3 sessions – At the Brunswick Business Incubator –
Mon 18th, 25th Aug and 1st Sept 2008 6.30-9pm.

A Sharper Edge - Finishing techniques for intermediate and experienced sewers.

Make bags that look more professionally made, with hard bases with purse feet, zip closures, and learn lots of tricks for the finer points of using bag hardware and finishing.

1 session – At the Brunswick Business Incubator

Purse Frames - Learn to use purse frames by making a coin purse, make-up purse or clutch. Basic to Intermediate sewing skills required.

300mm "SNAP" Bag - this purse frame bag is a cute little retro number, which can be made by intermediate to advanced sewers (absolutely not recommended for sewing newbies!!)

Patternmaking for Bags I - Learn to turn your creative ideas into reality without the need to ever buy another bag pattern!

These intensive, small-group workshops will cover the fundamentals of patternmaking and give you the skills to get started with designing your own simple bags.

Prerequisite - Basic to Intermediate sewing skills and experience with sewing BAGS.

Patternmaking for Bags II- Extend your skills to learn more complicated patternmaking techniques (pleats, gathers, darts and more 'sculptural" shapes).

Prerequisite - Completion of "Patternmaking for Bags 1" or Swinburne "Unique Bags and Purses".

Hats for all the Family!!! You'll have a choice of children's or adults hats which can be made as sunhats or to keep heads warm in Winter (YOU choose your fabric!). Patterns include a variety of brim widths "from bucket to Biba" (very narrow to very wide!).

For intermediate to advanced sewing skills (not suitable for beginners).
